According to industry sources on March 13, market research firm Counterpoint Research predicts that China's OLED production capacity will surpass South Korea's by 2029. This is because China is rapidly expanding its market share through continuous new investments and aggressive capacity expansion.
Counterpoint Research researcher Lee Jae-ho stated, "With government support, Chinese panel manufacturers are continuing to invest in 8.7-generation OLEDs using new deposition technologies." He added, "Although South Korea's OLED market share was 13% higher than China's in 2023, it is expected that China will surpass South Korea by a narrow margin starting in 2029."

Reports indicate that South Korean panel manufacturers have lost their leading position in the liquid crystal display (LCD) market due to the low-price offensive launched by Chinese companies. With China also closing in on the OLED market, their concerns about technology development and investment expansion are deepening.
In response, display manufacturers such as Samsung Display and LG Display are working to expand their mobile OLED panel supply chains. Samsung CEO Lee Jae-yong reportedly attended MWC 2026, the world's largest mobile communications exhibition, in Barcelona, Spain this month, and held discussions with several major smartphone manufacturers regarding display supply issues.
